2017-12 i Project and Book Presentation «The Voices of Silence - A group of homeless people conquering citizenship»

On December 14, at 5:30 p.m., MURATTO OPEN SPACE PORTO will receive the Voices of Silence platform from NPISA (Center for Planning and Intervention in Homelessness) in Oporto, for the presentation of the book "Voices of Silence - A homeless group to the conquering citizenship".

This is an unprecedented work in Portugal, involving about 80 people who, in some way, are related to the need of insertion in society. Some of them have street experience, others are living inclusion processes, and others are fully integrated and with recognized merit in their various areas of expression.

The project that gave life to this work began in April 2013 and lasted until May 2017, when it had already been possible to create two organizations to support Homelessness. There was also an opportunity to participate in the public debate on the New National Strategy for the Integration of Homelessness, and to welcome the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in the city of Porto.

The documentary narrative is given by the reports and chronicles that journalist Ana Cristina Pereira has been publishing in Jornal Público (with photographs by Paulo Pimenta, Adriano Miranda, Nelson Garrido, Manuel Roberto and Fernando Veludo), and by unpublished chronicles written by Luís Fernandes, professor of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto, one of the Institutions representing the NPISA Platform of Porto "Voices of Silence".

Among the mentioned artists are Ana Luísa Amaral, Carlos Tê, Dulce Maria Cardoso, Celina Silva, Filipa Leal, Francisco Duarte Mangas, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Isabel Figueiredo, Inês Lourenço, Jacinto Lucas Pires, João Usually, João Pedro Azul, José Luís Peixoto, José Tolentino Mendonça, Julieta Monginho, Kitato, Nuno Júdice, Pedro Lamares, Noé Alves, Renato Filipe Cardoso, Rui Salvador, Regina Guimarães, Rui Pina Coelho, Raoul Vaneighem, Susana Moreira Marques, Tiago Gomes, Valter Hugo Mãe.

The book was edited by Apuro - Associação Cultural e Filantrópica, which is part of "Voices of  Silence ", with the support of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto, which is also part of this Plataform and Jornal Público, of DO AF Conta and Eric Marais.

Copyrights and any profit from sales will revert to a fund designed to supplement costs associated with the reinsertion process, such as dental care, dental prostheses, glasses, access to rental of home and household equipment.

Thus, the MURATTO brand and the space MURATTO OPEN SPACE PORTO are proud to support this initiative, giving rise to the presentation of the project and book "The Voices of Silence".

We count on your presence and contribution to the creation of a better citizenship - because we believe in the power of inclusion and in the multiplicity of art in its various forms of expression.
